Sonic CD Re-release UK Release Date

23. October 2011

Sonic fans new and old have all been extremely excited since Sega first announced that they would be re-releasing Sonic CD on Xbox Live, PSN, PC and for the iPhone. It is said to be released as some sort of back up story for when Sonic 4 Episode II is actually released!

Retro gamers probably remember the 1993 release of Sonic CD on the Sega Mega-CD which was absolutely fantastic. It wasn’t your average Sonic the Hedgehog game and you were able to travel back to the past as well as the future – meaning the soundtrack was enormous! The game itself was no walk in the park and collecting emeralds meant you had to run around a 3D environment destroying little spaceships. There was also a stage in the game where you would actually race metal Sonic in order to survive Robotnik’s laser beam!

As I am sure you remember Sonic CD sported both a Japanese and American soundtrack. Your concerns over whether or not we will be blessed with the funky Japanese soundtrack can cease as Sega announced that the game will come “with music from the original Japanese soundtrack”. Whether or not that is just for us European gamers only, who knows!

Whether you are looking to step back in time to the early 90’s and experience some good old Sega fun, or you’re new to the world of Sonic and you want to experience life before Sonic Adventure, Sonic CD is the perfect game for you!

So when can we expect this infamous classic to be released? Well, we can’t pinpoint an exact release date but Sega confirmed that it will be “coming this holiday season”! Be sure to re-visit the site for an exact date in due time. This is one re-release that you won’t want to miss.
