It was obvious that Activision were going to eventually reclaim the Call of Duty throne from Treyarch, since Modern Warefare 2 did so well by selling over 7 million copies on its 2009 release date! The question though is, will it be better than its predecessors?
With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 being released on the 8th November 2011 on all platforms and Battlefield 3 being released on October 25th 2011, which side will you succumb to?
Once you have seen Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in action, your mind will instantly be made up! Loud explosions and instant adrenaline pumping action will leave you on the edge of your seat. Fans of the previous Modern Warfare will be delighted to know that the story continues from the 2nd Modern Warfare after Russia invaded the USA. This inevitably started world war 3 which is what this game will be based upon. Judging from the demo, your main character won’t be Soap and is instead a young man named Frost. The dialogue is amazing and perfectly scripted and the action is twice as intense as Modern Warfare 2.
There is a Spec Ops mode available on the game which is ultimately just a high intensity survival based mode with breaks in between to wipe the sweat off your forehead, compose yourself and if necessary discuss tactics with your friend. Whilst playing Spec Ops, you actually get to feel like you might be able to win and even if you don’t win, you at least feel like you may have stood a chance. Previous Call of Duty games seemed to be designed to stop you from winning. With that being said, no one really knows how difficult veteran mode will be. Will it be a walk in the park like Modern Warfare 2? Or will it be a glitch-fest hell like the first Modern Warfare, particularly on the last mission? Only time will tell on that one. Unfortunately it is confirmed that grenade launchers will be integrated into the game – Great, be prepared to be noob-tubed every so often!
So to answer my question on which side you would succumb to, the answer should be obvious. Modern Warfare games lead the way in first person shooters. Sure, Battlefield 3 looks awesome and utilizes the Frostbite engine but there is no doubt that Modern Warfare 3 will have a better story, better cinematic action sequences and better gameplay.
