Rumours have been flying around since the summer that Google will be releasing a netbook with the new Google Chrome operating system and the latest word on the grapevine is that they could release a netbook as early as this month and certainly before Christmas.
Insiders suggest that it will be Inventec that will be manufacturing up to 70000 units for the initial shipment this month. Not only that but Google has 2 other big players lined up to release the Google Chrome OS on its new netbooks by the end of the year. Who are these players?, none other than Acer and HP. They should definately help to put some serious weight behind google's latest offering.
Google Chrome OS is Google's open source, Linux-based operating system which was designed by Google to work exclusively with web applications. The operating system will not be available to download, rather, the operating system will only ship on specific hardware from Google's manufacturing partners.
Google has said that speed is the key to the operating system and therefore the only application on a device will be a browser incorporating a media player. It was designed primary for users who spent most of their computer time on the interent.
